Safest Cars: Audi and VW

I know what you are thinking: Volvo and Saab are the safest cars in the world and neither Audi nor VW can possibly stake that claim. In many ways, the two Swedish brands certainly are tops in safety. However,Audi vehicles and Volkswagen vehicles incorporate some of the latest safety features, making them amongst the safest cars in the world according to independent and government testing authorities. Let’s take a look at what makes an Audi or VW a truly safe car.

Beyond the obvious, what defines a safe car isn’t always completely apparent. With the Swedish brands, stronger roof supports and side impact protection are some of the more known features in addition to a special engine bay design that drops the engine to the ground in a frontal impact instead of pushing it into the cabin area. Still, Audi and Volkswagen incorporate some of the latest safety and technological advances on many models including:

All wheel drive– Audi is the inventors of Quattro all wheel drive a proven and world leading system that has protected drivers for 25 years. The Quattro is, considered by many, to be the most responsive, enjoyable, and safest driving experience going. From racecar drivers to autobahn navigators, Quattro is a favorite for many.

Side impact air bags – Long before air bags were standard on American vehicles, they have been an important part of many European cars including Volkswagen and Audi. Both car brands have taken the technology one step further by offering side impact air bags for front and rear seat passengers.

ABS standard – Not all VWs or Audis come equipped with ABS, but it is an option with most models. The A4, however, comes equipped with ABS, ESC, and side curtain air bags making the car one of the safest on the road according to independent testing reports.

Stringent testing by automobile crash test associations has revealed that both the VW Golf and Jetta have performed at the top of their respective categories, as has the Audi A4. Not even a Volvo or a Saab managed to garner the award in their respective categories!

Besides standard or optional features or vehicle design, we all know that driver habits can either affirm or cancel out safety engineering. The timely replacement of worn out automotive parts with OEM quality parts is essential to helping your vehicle run well and perform safely. If you are a weekend mechanic, take care where you purchase your parts, as the influx of counterfeit parts is a real concern. When purchasing online, only shop through a respected and viable wholesaler, such as the Race Pages, for premium parts.

Yes, Volkswagen and Audi produce some of the safest cars. You can look beyond Saab and Volvo and experience the German difference!
