S.I.R. System. Original J-44298 is an acceptable equivalent. The SIR module retention spring must be released at 2 points simultaneously on each side of the module to facilitate removal. Standard tools such as screwdrivers cannot be used due to limited clearance between the steering wheel and the instrument panel. Insert the forked end of the tool into one set of access holes on the back of the wheel. Pry the retention spring by pulling a way from the wheel to release one side of the module. Repeat this procedure on the opposite side of the wheel. It may be necessary to index the wheel to position the access holes over the steering column. Original tool may not have been heat treated and could bend during use.
