I bought this tool so I could replace all of the brake lines that were rusting through on my 1997 Buick LeSabre Limited with ABS brakes. Heavily salted roads in Wisconsin will usually rust most brake lines on any car in about 10-11 years time. I had a break on the right rear line where it made the turn under the car after crossing over from the drivers side 2 months ago. This line was easy since 3/16" or 4.75mm bubble flair lines are pretty much the same size and easy to find in parts stores. The next line to break this past week was up near the engine compartment where all 6 lines run parallel going to the ABS unit which is mounted on the drivers side frame horn. The lines that run from the Master Cylinder to the ABS unit are larger 6mm lines. These are not easy to find with bubble flare ends. This tool was used to make replacement lines from std 1/4" brake lines since no metric lines were readily available. The old lines had an intermediate section of braided line for flexibility and were aprox. 51 inches in length. I used 60 inch lines and added a circle in place of the braided part to add flexibility once again. The Std line is aprox. 1/64" larger than the metric line but clamping down on the line until the wing nuts are flush crimps the line enough to hold it during the bubble flare forming. I used the same length protruding as instructed and the formed ends looked nice. After drilling out the old nuts with a 17/64" drill I was also able to reuse the old metric nuts on the newer larger lines to mount easily back into the master cylinder and the ABS unit. Cont…
